Well, Darn.

I've been hearing murmurings and whisperings of "snow" all weekend. I've hardly been able to contain myself as I've heard again and again, "snow". This morning, I checked the weather and was greeted with a winter weather watch and a promise of 1"-4" of snow. Woo hoo! Then, just now, I checked again (I've been spamming the weather site) only to discover they lied. :sigh: We're now promised accumulations of almost 1" and that mostly on grassy surfaces. :sigh again:

I can tell you for certain a low front is moving through because my head is positively aching. I'm sitting here, on the ickiest, rainiest, coldest, greyist day I've seen in a while, feeling somewhat glum. I was happy until I read that stinky report. Blah.

Otherwise, it's been a loverly weekend. Friday I managed to get heaploads of grading finished and keep Nana and Pop company as the movers unloaded furniture and boxes. That evening I picked up Dani and we went to Bonefish for dinner and then came home.

Saturday was waffle day. See:

Lil doesn't like her "syryup" on her waffles, she wants to dip them. Okee dokey, whatever floats your boat. ;o) Dani and I spent the afternoon "shopping". This doesn't necessarily mean we spent money, it means we ran around our favorite stores looking. I did find some good deals on shirts for B--who is still wearing shirts from high school--and on a couple of pairs of Clark's for me. I very infrequently purchase shoes, wearing them until they are almost falling apart. Soooo, I was in desperate need of new black and brown shoes and I found them on BIG sale. :o)

Today, we had scones for brekky and Dani and I got in the studio for a while. She mentioned being interested in card making and picked my brain. What follows are cards I designed to help demonstrate a few different techniques. Dani, like me, has a HUGE background of cropping/scrapbooking, so making cards comes fairly easily.

Here are the cards I made:

Stamp set "All Through the Year"
Colors: Certainly Celery, Real Red
Paper: Whisper White, Real Red, red gingham from Creative Memories
Real Red 5/8" grosgrain ribbon

Stamp Set: "Tart and Tangy" (I can't get enough of this set!)
Ink: Staz-On Black, Yo Yo Yellow
Paper: Whisper White, Basic Black, Yo Yo Yellow
Accessories: Dazzling Diamonds (on the popped up lemons), gromits, ribbon from who knows where...I think it came on some package.

Same as before only simpler and the additional stamp set "Happy Everything"

Easiest. Card. Ever.
Stamp Set: "Lovely As a Tree"
Ink: Staz-On black

Stamp Set: "Fresh Cuts" and Fresh Cuts cards
Inks: Apricot Appeal, Always Artichoke

Mom, this is the card Auntie Susan sent. Great minds think alike, eh? :oP

I would like to get back in the studio to play with my new designer papers and ink up my "Season of Friendship" stamp set but I'm not sure if I'll have the time this evening. We'll have to see.

*******************************
Sparklies:

1. The day off on Friday was such a gift.
2. Visiting with Dani. She and her folks will be dining with us this week which will be nice. Dani and I have been friends for almost fifteen years, so I've known Mom and Dad that long as well. They are just delightful.
3. Nana and Pop's new home is really starting to come together (we were there for a while yesterday).
4. Ibuprofen.
5. Silly Lily. :o)
6. The smell of freshly baked bread.

No milestones.

************************************
Ahhhh, it's five o'clock, and therefore time to begin dinner. B is making chili (tonight's a GREAT night for it) and I'm making the accompanying corn bread. Mmmm. :o)

GAH! I was wishing snow for you too. But unfortunately you are too far south.

We are going to get a foot. Which means a day off of work which I cant afford, because my office DOESNT close. We have to take a PTO day. We had a snow emergency 2 years ago where we were ORDERED by the governor to stay off the roads. Office? Open. So it went to PTO. Even though it was illegal to go there.

PS - Friday it was 67 degrees. I want winter to be over. DAMN you groundhog!

I would send you some snow. But it would be water by the time it got to you lol.

I love the 'fresh cuts' cards! Anja

Yeah, they're talking possibly as much as a foot for us up in MD too and unlike most of the time, it's supposed to be worse the more to the east you are. Lawrence and I stopped by the office to pickup my laptop for potential work at home tomorrow.

Oh, if only you were in Richmond! We've gotten probably 1-2 inches already with more coming..possibly up to 6 inches! My kids are so excited! Me, not so much...I'm headed in to work in a couple of hours and any way I go I still have to cross an icy bridge. Wish I could send some of the white stuff your way! I'd be happy to share! Stay warm!

Yummo for chili and corn bread. I hope you enjoyed your dinner, Rach.

The cards are gorgeous. You put so much skill and love into them.

The snow is falling in Charlotte, so I'll try really hard to send some your way. This is the first time this year where it started before the kids have gone to bed. I bet they are bouncing off the walls and driving their parents bananas! Hee Hee.

Hugs.

I just nominated you for an award! Thanks for brigtening up my day each and everyday. I admire your sparkling outlook on life. I hope I can be as wonderful a mother as you are when I'm blessed with children.

The yellow card is just delicious! I long for bright colors (hence the blog change!) You see, we've seen way too much snow and we long for the days of sun and warmth. We had the sun today, but then it turned to 18 degrees and snow flurries. Argh.

Thanks for the hugs earlier. A worn out mama can always use those!

De-lurking here for a moment (I've been reading your blog for more than a year and a half and haven't commented in a long time). The idea of wanting snow is hard for me to imagine right now, since I live in a part of Canada where it hasn't been above freezing since early December, and there is currently about three feet of snow outside (would love to send you a picture of that, btw). I'm so ready for winter to be over - but I hope that you do see a bit more of the white stuff first :)

Love the cards you made, especially the lemon one! How cute. I wish I could do something like that but I wouldn't really know where to start.

It is snowing here now! :)

Love the cards too - I have one of the cherry ones on my desk! :) Glad that you got studio time this weekend.

Awwww, I'm so sorry about the snow. :( I have missed snow terribly since moving here to NC in '05. It makes me so homesick sometimes. I'm bummed for you.

I always love looking at your cards. In a couple more years when my kids start to move out, one way I plan to cope with the empty nest thing is to make me a room like yours and learn to do some neat stuff with paper, stamps, ink, ribbons... Though I'll miss my kids terribly, I think that will be neat.

Have a great week!

Thank you for continuing to read my blog and give me support. I appreciate you letting me know the things you experienced also. It helps to hear from you. My heart aches so deep, and not that I minimize any loss because a loss is a loss, but from what I understand there is no loss like the loss of a child. I cannot even imagine it being worse than this, you are so strong you have always been someone that as inspired me to get through this, thank you for that.

I am glad you have had a fun weekend Rach and congrats on the shoe bargain!! The cards are just fabulous as always - hope you got more studio time so you can share more soon!

Sorry about the lack of snow - we have been promised 8-12 inches and they have already closed the school tomorrow in anticipation. Rhiannon will be devastated as they were supposed to have a visiting author tomorrow which she has been really looking forward to.

Enjoy your week.

#1 son and the grandbaby came to visit for the weekend. She was excited to see the snow (we got about an inch too) but when we took her outside and she stepped into it, she freaked. We had to carry her around. Give her another year and she'll love it. Of course, we don't get much snow in Alabama so she may be college age before we see it again.

You know, I keep hearing about chili and I just realized I have no idea what it is, or what it tastes like. Do post a recipe, it sounds delicious :)
