I finished steam cleaning the carpets this morning and put everything back in place. Here is the current state of my bedroom. I'm beyond delighted with the paint and the simplicity of the room. I'm looking at getting a new bedside lamp for me (the little green one) as I've had that lamp since high school and well, it doesn't really "go" with the rest of the room.
I'd also like to get some simple window treatments and pillow shams. I think those items will finish the room nicely. :o)
Looking out into the hall. I'm hoping Brien will frame some of his prints for me so I can hang them in the room. That space beside the dresser is a prime location for one.
And, there you have it--my room. Those of you family and friends who have seen it in real life know what a VAST improvement this is. Those of you who haven't can certainly imagine it. :o)

Today hasn't been quite as down as yesterday. I believe the changing of the seasons is indeed the trigger. As I've typically done, I've embraced the down yo and gone with it. Fighting it really does no good.

We had the most wonderful and delightful surprise this afternoon/evening. Our friends Jen and Jim came with their two kiddos for a visit. :o) Lil and Jemma had a BLAST together and James is such a sweetie pie! :o) Jen has volunteered to keep Lil for us so we can still do our honeymoon thing. I'm strongly considering doing a couple of days now and then maybe a longer thing closer to the beginning of August. If we do the few days around our anniversary, I'll definitely call upon Jen to help out as Jemma and Lil will have a SPLENDID time together. :o) Now to convince Brien...;oP

Today's Sparklies:
1. I discovered an artist whose music really resonates with me today--Jose' Gonzales. It's acoustic and folky and aternative-y and really mellow. It fits my mood today.
2. Clean carpets and a bedroom that has been put back together.
3. Three day weekends. Ahhh!
4. Listening to Stephen Fry read "Harry Potter" whilst working. I LOVE audio books!
5. Getting chores done. Seriously--it feels so much better than sitting there with them hanging over your head.
6. I read a Susan Elizabeth Phillips book I hadn't read before and found myself crying at the end. I can honestly say that's the first time a novel has moved me, quite literally, to tears. Oh I enjoyed it!
7. Visiting with the Bates family. Oh this has been a wonderful evening. :o)
No milestones.

Wow! You have been busy. Hope you feel better soon.
I love the color! That color is the main color for my great room and hallways in my house. It was the color of my bedroom until I came home from work one day and found my husband in the midst of painting the bedroom the color of his favorite soccer team.
*sigh* LOL

Hi Rachael - You don't know me from Adam but I have been reading your blog for many months (can't remember why or how I found it)but have never commented before. We are the same age, have 2 girls, like cooking, etc so I love to read your updates. Turns out we have similar taste in music as well. I have been loving Lenka lately ... check her out. Glad to hear you're having a better day.

Your room looks fabulous and an enormous improvement on the gold rash. Very serene and restful now.
Glad you might still be able to get away with Brien - hope you can talk him into it!
Have a great week Rach.
Gorgeous bedroom! Oh how I would love to have all that space!
The down yo. I'm glad that you just rode it out. Better that than to ignore it and allow it to fester.
A three day weekend bonus-- oh I couldn't agree more!
I HAVE BEEN LISTENING TO THE HARRY POTTER SERIES READ BY JIM DAIL--HE IS AMAZING- ONLY A FEW MORE CHAPTERS OF THE DEATHLY HALLOWS AND I'LL HAVE TO FIND MORE AUDIO BOOKS AT THE LIBRARY
GALE
It looks great! Is the TV a new addition to the room? I'll bet that is nice in the a.m. to hear the news as you get ready.
It looks so nice Rach! Ruh is almost done with all the painting and trim and it is amazing what a new paint job will do to a room!
I say if you like your little green lamp then you should keep it! I read once that if you fill your house with things you love it will always look beautiful! So if you love your little lamp then keep it. But on the opposite side, if you hate it, all the more reason to go SHOPPING! :)
Rach-the room looks lovely! Check out Smith+Noble for window treatment. They will send samples. I can visualize Roman Shades in some wonderful texture for that bedroom of yours..
Tee hee..Bruce is NOT like Brien. His dresser top is completely free and clean of ANYTHING because he has all these wonderful little "compartment" type things in his drawers for keys, wallet, cell phone, etc. He even "stages" stray socks....oy vey....
If you like Jose' Gonzales, you'll love this (instrumental)--

You can buy it through I-tunes or cd baby.
Original, acoustic, mellow, soulful--gorgeous.

The room looks great!
Your room looks HEAPS better Rach! Well done.

Your bedroom looks so bright and inviting Rachel. You did great! I am so happy that Jen volunteered to keep Lily so you can do your honeymoon get away. It is important time together for you and Brien and who knows what might come out of it:) Lily might have more fun than you guys! It sounds like your weekend was perfect. Love you.
Love and Hugs, Laurie
Oh the wall colors are lovely - so clean and fresh!
Love the color!
And you and I have VERY similar bedroom sets!
The colors are perfect! I think I might just steal them, in fact -- the bedroom is the bane of my existence right now, the catch-all in a tiny house. We have been meaning to paint over the pepto-bismol pink and get rid of the horrid, upside down roses wallpaper border for FIVE YEARS, since we moved in. My daughter, who was 1 yo when we moved in, is turning 6 next week and none of the bedrooms have been painted yet. All three need work. I'm inspired!
The flowers in your garden are spectacular. I bought an oriental lily to plant in my back porch bed, too -- inspired by you and Hannah's garden. I suspect I'll think of you and Hannah when it blooms each year (if I can get it to come back; we're a bit more "mountain weather" than you are, and sometimes the softer perennials have a tough time of it). My hostas, though, are going absolutely nuts. I'm going to put them everywhere I can this year, since there is such joy in watching them come back from nothing each spring and take over the beds!
Stephen Fry reads Harry Potter? I'm picking that up! We're coming to DC in a few weeks with the kids, and that would be perfect for the car! Wish we could swing far enough south to say hello to you, but someday... someday! Or you'll have to come here if VT ever plays the Mountaineers again and we can get some tix. I've never been to a tailgate, but if you make it as far as Morgantown, I'll figure out the ritual.
Looks great. Enjoy! Anja.
I love the color! I'm totally stealing it!
:) Hugs to you!
It looks FABULOUS!!! What a pretty room. You have done a great job!
