Farmers' Market Saturday

Although it was grey and gloomy, the rain held off and we had a fabulous time at the FM. This gorgeous bloom?

Part of this bouquet. :o)

Lily took her time charming everyone she met, petting all the pooches she could. While she charmed, I shopped. Today's goodies include:

A visit to Rockahock Farm's bakery

Lucille's Bakery (this was Lil's purchase--she was SO proud of herself paying the man for her treat)

A visit with Blenheim for Romaine

Kelrae green beans (they are SO awesome!)

Salsa kit courtesy Blenheim

Also from Blenheim, figs (for B)

And, I'm sure these are close to the end of the season--but I'm bound and determined to enjoy them while I can.

Focaccia from Catering by George.

I also got a beautiful chuck roast and dog bones from Simpson Farms, and a pound of scallops from Bill Forrest Seafood. Dinner this week is going to be so wonderful! :o)

Anything for the Crockpot Fest in there? I've got it all set up to start on Monday!

What do you do with figs? My only memory of a fig (besides fig newtons) is when we were in Williamsburg (hmmm, sound familiar?) and it was 107 degrees, we were so thirsty, so hungry and one of the trees had figs on it. Someone picked one and entertained eating it, but if memory serves, that isn't exactly the edible form yet. I recall it oozing white. (Maybe it wasn't a fig, but that's what I was told.) But, what do you do with figs? Eat them straight up? Bake them in things? Do tell.

Amy,

We just eat 'em straight up. I know people who make fig jams and bake with them. Brien enjoys them just as they are. :o)

Crock pot favorite recipes are ready to roll come Monday. :o)

I just love the idea of a salsa kit. Is it delicious? Do you add anything else to it that's not included.

Now I want salsa.

Miss Meliss,

We add some sea salt and sometimes a little cilantro--we're not huge fans as too much just comes off tasting soapy to us. It is truly WONDERFUL and fresh and delicious. :o)

FIGS!!! I totally missed them! Hopefully the next time I can make the farmers market they will still have them. Enjoy yours though! Honey and/or goat cheese go wonderfully with them.

Oh, and what a beautiful bus!

Rachel,
All of this food looks so good. I can't wait until my visit and two trips to FM. Only two weeks until my trip. I love the workshop at Lowe's. I am going to take my grandkids next week. Thanks for all the good information. Lil did a great job.

OMG! Those figs!!!! I am so jealous! No figs here. My fig tree is gorgeous but barren. No figs in the grocery stores, and none in the farmer's market. How I long for figs! Lucky B!

I get to drool over the pictures of the sun golds and now my all time favorites--fresh figs.
but al least we still have green beans and squash from Harry's garden.
No such farmer's market in C'ville
