My Name is Mommy

My name is "Mommy", and most of the time I love it.  However, in the dead of night it is my least favorite name.  Last night was one of those nights.  I was up late with heart burn, and was finally sleepy enough to ignore it around 11:00.

So, of course, Ellie was awake and ready to eat around 11:45.  Then, at about 1:00 she awoke--to play.  What?!? She's never done that before.  I laid in bed listening, waiting for the other shoe to drop.  Right on cue at 1:45, she decided she was tired of playing, and wait, where's my paci?? Let the screaming commence.  I ran in, pacied her, and she still wasn't happy.  Insert another thirty minutes of rocking before she gave me her, "okay, I'm tired now signal".

I was in bed from 2:15 until 4:00 when Lil came in to tell me she was scared of her room.  I'm telling you, folks, I was a wreck at that point.  Poor Lil.  I did my best to be kind, loving and understanding, but if you don't want to be scared in the middle of the night, don't sleep with the giant stuffed alligator on your bed.

Needless to say, when Ellie awoke at 5:30 demanding some grub, I was a groggy mess.  I got her into the bed with me so I could nurse her, and didn't awaken again until I was smacked in the face with a flailing fist around 7:00 or so.  :shakes head:  Ellie was in a quite the happy mood, joyfully flinging her limbs this way and that.  Me? I was toast.  Still am.

While Ellie does indeed nap during the day, most of the time Lil doesn't.  I'm not going to sleep while Lil is still awake, even if she is having rest time.  It's just NOT a good idea.

So, B looked at me this morning and said, "Maybe we should switch up who gets up with the kids in the middle of the night--you look awful." Um, thanks? He said he understood he gets up to work outside the house, but that it was obvious I was getting run-down and not catching any breaks.

It was sweet of him, but things will improve.  They always do.  And, besides, I like being "Mommy", even when it means no sleep. ;o)

Ah, Miss Ellie.  My oh-how-I-so-wish-you-weren't-mobile-yet baby.  She is now really moving, crawling everywhere and getting into everything.  And, unlike my first two, this one is quite the mouther, exploring everything she finds.  I am hyper vigilant about making sure the floor is clean.

So, when I heard a choking/gagging noise yesterday afternoon I was a bit nonplussed.  I raced over, swiped around the baby's mouth and removed...a moth.  Ew. Now I'm being extra hyper vigilant about the floor...

This sweet darling finds herself in the most improbably places.  I frequently find her under her stationary jumper or the rocking chair.  Or, I find her under my feet in the kitchen, even though I left her playing (I thought...) contentedly in the playroom with her sister.

She is a busy busy girl with places to go and people to meet.  Far be it from me to hold her back. ;o)

Today's Sparklies:

1.  Ellie likes carrots and sweet potatoes and tolerates pears, peaches and cereal.  Give the girl some "cado" and she's set. :oP
2.  Lil started writing a book today.  She has a difficult time forming shapes so we're making a shapes book. :o)
3.  I didn't have to go to work this morning after being up all night with the girls.  Hallelujah!
4.  RCIA tonight.
5.  Beanie is such a silly girlie. Her smile and laughter just melt my heart.

No milestones.

I am laughing at Ellie's habit of eating things off the floor. I think James will try to swallow anything he can find, and as clean as I try to be about keeping the floor vaccumed, he will most often find something. Whether it be a piece of carpet fuzz, an almost invisible string of thread, etc, he will find it and try to swallow it.

And I echo your sentiment...I love being "Mommy" too, but sometimes it does get to be tough (we all have our days) and we feel like we need a break. But I'm sure you love your girls just as much as I love my kiddos! I wouldn't trade being "Mommy" for anything in the world!

It must be nightmare week. K- woke up having a nightmare and was screaming "MOM!" several times. I woke up, the doors were closed, I thought I heard her and when I entered I heard, "Where were you? I've been yelling for you?" I asked if she had considered coming to me? She told me her dream so that it wouldn't come true, in full voice mind you, then asked that I snuggle in and sleep with her. Haven't done it in a long time and my eyelids were rather heavy.

Still, those nights are hard and I only have one!

Love mobile baby! Once we found my brother snacking on a cocoon, so don't worry. It won't hurt her!

My kids are grown up for the most part but now my dog likes to wake me at 5am to go out to go potty. Moms never win.

Ha,ha...Ellie and the moth reminded me of Ella eating "cat vomit". Their cat "George" had the bad habit of eating curling ribbon, newspaper etc. Of course he couldn't digest those things, so he would vomit. Ella found some, and promptly ate it. Yikes!!
I can still remember Misty telling me how Lu held her over the sink and rinsed and scooped and rinsed and scooped....:-&

Hi, Rach.

Just catching up on some posts after a very busy week. I will be thinking of you during your RCIA classes and Baptismal prep as you will certainly think of Hannah lots while you're surrounded by all those other families. I'm sure that she's smiling down and very excited for Lily and Ellie. Since she's an angel, I believe she's an expert on all of the Sacraments and is so very happy for all of you.

The pictures are absolutely beautiful. Ohhhhh! Squeezes galore for Lily and Ellie.

I hope you get some well-needed rest this weekend. It's funny, I woke up to the sound of our dog, Moxie, getting sick at 4am last night. I cleaned things up, tossed her bed in the wash, soothed her, and right before going back to sleep sent some positive thoughts to parents out there who don't have it so easy with being able to go right back to snoozing. Little did I know what kind of night you had! I hope there are some sound sleepers tonight!

Loving the pics of Ellie under the chair. :) I have to get some of Charlie when he gets into interesting spots. I never have the camera ready, and he's off and into the next thing by the time I find it!

I hope you can get lots of good rest this weekend! I was up at 4:30 with Matt as he had some work stress to sort through, and I was exhausted. It made me wonder how I will handle sleepless nights with a baby...

I just put in the oven your stuffed cheese shells. I have never ventured into making them before. It was a yr. ago when I printed it out and I thank you for such an easy recipe. My husband wants to know what he did to deserve these stuffed shells! Thanks for opening your heart and sharing all about your family.

I love the photos of Ellie. Brings back many good memories- though I have to confess my floors probably weren't as clean. :) But my kids are all healthy, great young people, so hopefully they didn't eat anything too awful. :)

Hope you are having a beautiful Saturday. The weather here in my part of NC has been GORGEOUS today! Perfect fall weather, and I was thinking of you while I was in grad school today.

Happy weekend to you & yours!

Hi sweetie
those nights are exhausting... I hope you manage to get some rest and a little you time!
That child has something she really wants under that chair... man... she looks as though she knows every square millimeter of it! Really made me laugh. The moth... just think of it as additional protein:-)
