A Weekend Spent Doing Nothing

So, we did nothing this weekend, and it was WONDERFUL.  We were supposed to visit with GG and Bill, but given my cold and the nastiness pouring forth from Bean's nose, and the coughing the two girls were doing, we decided that was something we just didn't need to share.

So, we stayed home.  There were no ballgames.  No trips.  No shopping.  Nothing but just being as a family and it was delightful.  I think we sometimes need those sorts of days where there are no expectations and you simply enjoy being together as a family.

Last night used to mark my favorite day of the year--the end of daylight savings time.  I say "used to" because that was prior to having small children.  For me (and my sleeping loving boy), it was a night we got an extra hour of sleep!  Yeah.  Not any more.  The baby (who I really need to rechristen since she is no longer a baby :shakes head:) was up at 5:15 this morning.  :sigh:  I hate the time change and the need to "reprogram" everyone.

Today I figured out I have become very good at judging time based on the quality/angle of daylight.  I had NO idea I did this. Numerous times I looked up and thought it was time for lunch (too early) or time to put Bean to bed for a nap (again, too early).  Just now I looked up and thought, "Oh, goodness! I'm going to be late for the bus."  DOH!  1-It's Sunday, Rach! 2-It's NOT four o'clock.

So, while this time change is loverly for the mornings (no longer pitch black when Lil's 7:00 alarm goes off), but it's going to start getting dark by 4:30.  :oS

On top of this, I'm ready to fling myself into full-on "Holiday Mode".  Why?!?  It's too early!  And yet, I'm ready to bring out the holiday music and movies.  It probably has something to do with the fact I'm trying to finalize all the family's Christmas gifts for the girls, and trying to figure out what I'm getting everyone else.  I'm usually much better about tucking things away throughout the year.  I've been terrible about that the past couple of years, making things a little more complicated come November.

I'm getting really excited for Tuesday.  You see, Lil has the day off!  We're going to do something fun--I'm thinking VLM--and I can't wait!  Then, Thursday is Nana's birthday and Friday B is off for Veteran's Day and I'm meeting up with a bloggy friend and her family. :o)

Next week, Lil has an early release Thursday and then the day off Friday, and the following week she's off Wednesday-Friday.  Wow this month is going to fly by!

So, yes, I'm busy making plans and trying to get organized and ready.  My favorite time of year is soon to be upon us.  :o)  And, this weekend was a fantastic opportunity to sit and veg before the busy-ness of it all begins.

Weekend Sparklies:

1.  Doing nothing all weekend except be with my family.
2.  Reading three books.  Wow! It's been nice.
3.  A huge long break (for me) from the computer--that will be continuing as soon as I've finished this post. ;o)
4.  Gorgeous weather.
5.  Lighted candles.  It's candle season again.
6.  Playing with friends in the backyard yesterday.  We had four little girls in the backyard and it was so fun.
7.  I whipped up a quick batch of pumpkin cookies.  Yum.

No milestones.

Just testing out whether or not I can leave a comment. The last couple of times the interwebs have blocked me. Boooo!

LOVE pumpkin cookies! Are you posting your recipe on FYB? Our kids were up and in our room early this morning too. I have been listening to Christmas music already too! I am SO excited. I ended up ordering Thanksgiving cards. I think they are super cute, and then I won't have to worry about Christmas cards. ;) I want to just enjoy the Holiday season without tons of stress. :) I hope you all are feeling better. Mwah! :)

Rach, what a wonderful start to the festive season... a whole weekend spent doing nothing except just being.... and being able to do that with your family is just priceless. I do hope you are all feeling so much better!
Ive been OK with the time change, but the kitties haven't quite got the hang of the fact that it isn't 1) breakfast or b) dinner time just yet. Their clocks are so amazingly well tuned!
big hugs

There is a big adjustment to the time. You wouldn't think an hour would make such a difference but it does. I do enjoy leaving the house with some light outside instead of pitch black. A weekend of doing nothing and just being as a family sounds lovely. I'm glad you all just stopped and got a chance to relax and enjoy one another. Ooh, meeting a bloggy friend...how fun. I am SO in holiday mode and I love it. I've been listening to Christmas music all weekend...I love it. Have fun with Lil tomorrow :)
