It's garden update time! :o) I know you are all SO excited. ;oP
Ellie and I got home from our walk this morning and the weather was so lovely I just had to take the time to get out in the yard and work.
The beautiful blooms of spring are fading and making way for the daylilies and lilies.
The coreopsis around the mailbox has spread like gangbusters and I love driving home and seeing their sunny faces awaiting me. :o)
I'm in love with these million bells. IN LOVE. They are such a gorgeous color--I love variegated flowers and leaves and these fit the bill.
Then, there's this fun bucket. I'm still so chuffed these guys not only wintered over, but are blooming too!
My morning glories. I'm babying them. I LOVE them, weed and pest that they are. Lil asked the the other day how can I tell if something's a weed and I told her it was a weed if it was a plant that was growing where you didn't want it. Since I want these, these don't count as weeds. ;o)
I needed something for them to climb since the boards on the fence are simply to big for them to wrap around. I stopped by our Ace and picked up six 1/4" dowel rods and made two little tepee-type structures.
This garden is all volunteers this year. Those are sunflowers there on the left, and check out my sungold plants!! I'm going to do the same thing next year as they sprout when they are ready and don't need to be coddled and transplanted. The hard part is thinning as I become a bit nauseated every time I have to pull out a plant. :oS It's hard for me, what can I say? The only other problem with this method is leaving the plants to grow where they are, and some of them are close to the edge. I suppose I ought to give it a year and see how it turns out.
At the other end of the bed, I have more morning glories (think I'll loathe them by the end of the year?) I had a baby cottontail hiding in there yesterday. :o)
See how pretty they are?
See????
How can you not love all that green and purple together? How can you not love the striations on the flowers and those tightly wound buds?
I have a weakness for climbing plants (minus kudzu). Flowering, large leafed climbing plants? Ah yes, color me a sucker. My yard will be nothing but morning glories by 2014 with the way these guys have come back this year. ;o)
Now these I did plant. The peas are coming in and the girls couldn't be more excited. :o)
And, speaking of the girls, everyone is starting to feel better. Okay, so Lil never actually felt sick minus those allergy symptoms, but still. Ellie was still rough yesterday but is finally on the upswing today. She and I made our trek to CW and did our walk which made both of us happy.
Brien is feeling better so the nexium is doing its thing. Yay! Me? I'm feeling rundown. I'm fairly certain I have the virus the girls had on top of their strep. I have a headache, runny nose with post nasal drip and some soreness and swelling of the throat. No fever and no gunky looking tonsils so I'm fairly certain it's NOT strep. But, I'm tired. I couldn't run for more than two blocks today so I just stopped. There's no point in pushing it if I don't feel 100%. I think the virus combined with not having a full night's sleep in close to a week has done it too. I've been up with either one or the other of the girls every night since last Thursday. I'm beat.
Here's to a good night's sleep tonight!
***************************
Sparklies:
1. Out enjoying my yard and gardens.
2. I made the most amazing smelling and looking blackberry cobbler today. We'll do the taste-test after dinner tonight and if it's as divine as I think it's going to be, I'll post tomorrow.
3. George:
I've still not turned on the a/c and it's gotten a bit, erm, stuffy and humid in the house the past few afternoons and evenings. George has taken to snoozing in front of either the front or back doors. (At the front door he actually rested his head on the door tensioner-thingy.)
4. Everyone feeling better. Whew!
5. The sounds of the girls all playing outside and laughing and having fun. I love that!
No milestones.

What beautiful flowers, Rach. I absolutely love, love, love purple flowers against green leaves. Enjoy your time playing in the dirt!
I hope that everyone is officially healthy very soon and that you get some wonderful (uninterrupted) rest tonight!
Rach, I hope you feel better soon and am glad that the girls are on the mend.
Now... I am j.e.a.l.o.u.s. yes, siree, j.e.a.l.o.u.s of your gorgeous flowers and the coreopsis. Everytime we try to grow them, the deer eat them! Your morning glories...oh.... glorious! and the blackberry cobbler... can't wait to hear how that turned out!

Hope you feel better soon.
I saw something lovely on facebook and reckon you and your girls would love it! Someone made a teepee with long sticks and then grew long beans up the sticks. It was quite large and her kids used it as a green cubby. It looked glorious

Look at all of that burst of color...I love it. The hanging basket with the orange flowers is just stunning!!! Looks like things are coming together nicely. I'm glad your family is on the mend, though I hope you kick whatever it is you're coming down with.
